New Years Eve in Costa Rica

Here I am on New Years Eve starting my new blog in Costa Rica. Although I have been writing a lot to friends in the states I have not been able to share the day to day experiences of my new life in Costa Rica with as many of you as I would like. So I've come to a time where I want to put down my experiences to share with many rather than just a few.

I sent this photo to share with you one of the first things I see after I roll out of bed and go into the kitchen. It is beautiful here. The sounds of the birds are only occasionally interrupted by the roar of a motorcycle or truck rolling by on its early morning deliveries. I live in a little town called Palmares, a 15 minute drive from a bigger town San Ramon, where I go to pick up packages and mail through a courier service that is more dependable than the local P.O.

I continue to build into my daily life the practices that I need for my health and healing. So besides some stretching, strengthening exercises and meditation, my main project today is to enjoy my new zero gravity chair I ordered from Amazon.com.and picked up just yesterday from the courier service in SanRamon.  One of the main drawbacks of renting furnished houses or apartments here is that the furniture is rarely up to my ergonomic needs. This is one of the trade offs I've accepted for the privilege of being able to move to different locations in Costa Rica and probably Ecuador. Not total flexible however, as wherever I go, the place must except dogs.

Yes, I have my 11 year old dog, Gracie with me. She looks more her age now as most of her hair is shaved off including between her toes, as this allows me to check for flees and ticks more easily. She gets tick treatment every month along with very though grooming for $20 at the local vet. She is free to run here inside this enclosed 1 acher of  land, richly dotted with palms, fruit trees and flowering plants. and more different types of bugs and insects than you could imagine. There are 3 other dogs here which have turned out to be companions for her. No way to tell of course if it is the companionship she likes or if she just enjoys their food and the food she steals from them and from the cats next door.

I have a very congenial neighbor with many areas of similarity -- age, background and experiences.  Both of us enjoying our alone time as well as sharing of stories, some meals, shopping and trips into town. There is  no lack of friendly people here and opportunities for learning, teaching and growing are daily offerings. My fingers are saying time to bring this to completion for now.

"If you live each day as it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." Steve Jobs

I invite you to envision how you would want to live your last day on this earth. Perhaps not the place or activity you would be living within, as those things you may not be able to choose. But what are the choices you would make in the moment that are within your control. Perhaps you choose to write this or just let your imagination explore this with all your senses as your contemplative journey of personal awareness moves you.
